ABSTRACT
Linguistic Imperialism in Education
----A case study of ELT in China
The emergence of linguistic imperialism has profound historical roots and realistic basis. Language imperialist phenomenon is particularly prominent in today's society, and thus subject to the attention of many experts and scholars.
The 21st century is a new colonial society, owing to the rapid development of science, technology and education, the ELT replace the old way of naked exploitation. In China, the history of the establishment of the hegemony of English language teaching has gradually evolved into the linguistic imperialism in education. This study focuses on exploring the linguistic imperialism embodied in ELT in China and its impact on ELT.
This paper absorbs some reasonable theories of criticism linguistics to explore the influence of linguistic imperialism (especially on education) on China through the current situation of ELT in China, so as to make recommendations for China's English teaching.

摘 要
教育领域的语言帝国主义—以中国的英语教学为例
语言帝国主义的产生有其深远的历史根源和现实基础。语言帝国主义的现象在当今社会尤为突出,因而受到了许多专家学者的关注。
二十一世纪是新殖民主义社会,在科技教育迅猛发展的今天,语言教育取代了旧的赤裸裸的剥削方式,在中国,英语语言教学霸权的历史建立已逐渐演化成为教育领域的语言帝国主义。
本研究的重点在于探讨语言帝国主义在中国英语教学中的体现以及对英语教学产生的影响。本文吸取批判语言学的一些合理思想,透过中国英语教学现状,探寻语言帝国主义对中中国的影响(尤其是教育方面的影响),从而为中国的英语教学提出建议。
