本文不涉及使用电子商务平台进行电子商务业务的商务活动，主要讨论构建电子商务平台所涉及的一些技术问题。对电子商务根据不同的原则具有不同的分类方法。如果根据电子商务参与方式的不同而进行分类，则可分为企业到用户（B to C）、企业对企业（B to B）、用户到用户（C to C）和企业到政府（B to G）共4类。本文主要介绍B to C类和B to B类电子商务系统。
电子商务是现实社会中商务活动的电子化实现方式，因此它的实现过程也就是现在商务活动的各个过程。包括交易前的商品信息流览、定单的签署、支付货款。商品的配送和售后服务等过程。在为用户提供商品信息时需要有商品信息库，该数据库的建立需要有数据库技术，用户需要使用Web浏览技术（包括HTTP和HTML或XML等技术）例览商品信息并完成商品定购。在进行付款时需要使用电子支付技术，与其密切相关的安全问题需要有相应的安全技术作为保障。除了定单格式和所交换信息略有不同外，B to C类的电子商务和B to B类的电子商务均使用类似的一些技术和标准。除此之外还需要有网络技术作为必要的保证。 使用的标准 内容显示 Web浏览（基于HTML和HTTP） 消息的描述 W3C规定的XML 消息的传递 使用SSL的HTTP 1.0 安全通信 SSL/TSL 加密算法 公开密钥标准（PKCS）SSL API 认证（GA） ITU-T建议X.509
