摘要
目前在语言学领域，语言学家们不仅只对语言本身进行一些研究，他们还对人们日常对话中的语言产生了越来越浓厚的兴趣。人们是如何表达他们的意图的？人们是经常直接表达他们想说的，还是使用一些别的方法来交流？对这些方法，是否存在相关的理论解释？以上这些问题成为了语言学家们力图探询的主题。本文的目的在于用语用学的理论来阐述中英文对话中人们是如何表达他们的意图。首先，本文简单介绍言语行为理论，间接言语行为理论，会话含义以及合作原则。然后，对这些理论进行详细的解释，并且用大量的例子来表明，在大多数场合，人们会选择间接的方式来表达他们的意图。最后，本文给出一个结论。既在中英文对话中，语用学相关理论对说话人意图表达的研究起着很大的作用。

Abstract
In the field of linguistics today, linguists not only do some research work in language itself, but also become more and more curious about the utterance in people’s daily conversation. How can people express their intentions? Do they always say what they want to express directly or use the other methods to communicate? Is there any theoretical system about the ways which people like to apply in their conversations? These become the central topics which linguists are trying their best to explore. The purpose of this thesis is to show how people express their intentions in the English and Chinese conversation by using the pragmatic theories.
