Executive Summary

Youth the the critical period for leadership development. Leadership, as a kind of comprehensive quality, has been treated as an important part of the higher education in the United States. And this education is regarded as an significant innovating mechanism for higher education which promotes teaching reform. In the United States, there have already been more than 600 universities focusing on developing students' leadership in terms of classroom teaching, extracurricular activities, and special projects, which achieved a good success.. Research and practice show that teaching students leadership skills, and guiding them to apply to social practice can help them better adapt to the society and improve their professional quality of employment and entrepreneurship ability. For example, Since the 1980s, many business schools from some universities in the United States have been providing leadership in education, in order to increase student's personal influence, the correct use of power, inspiring ability, effective negotiation as well as coordination and innovation ability, and all these helped MBA students to get a higher position and salary after graduation.

Introduction

The art of leadership is summed up as the leadership of the leader's universal skills in a long-term practice, which simply is the leadership skills. It is shown as the leader creatively and flexibility uses his scientific knowledge and leadership methods, specific analysis of various complex factors and properly solves the skills and practical problems in the job. Leadership skills are not all the same in practice, different leaders tend to have different ways to handle the same matters. Leadership skills have the characteristics of variety, richness and colorfulness and vary from person to person. As leaders, when they are reporting, in order to begin with a good attraction, some will tell a humorous story related to the theme, making the meeting atmosphere active, some will list some thought-provoking numbers to encourage people to think, and others will directly point out everyone’s concern to attract great interests and so on. To adopt what kind of skills, is because people depends on the leader, the flexible use of time and current situation. But this kind of flexible varies from leaders’ skills, which is not a leader’s needs and is haphazard. The leadership skills of different leaders are colorful and various with inductive formed general skills, namely leadership skills. American colleges’ and universities’ leadership development plan is not only to make students master the nonprofit sectors and the theory of organization structure but the political knowledge as well as improving their leadership values and skills.
