Investigation of the Civilization Level and the Gap between Rural and Urban Areas through the Lexical Analysis of Shaoxing Dialect

Abstract: This paper firstly introduces some previous studies on speakers’ social factors, such as gender, age and place of residence, and their influence on speakers’ choice of words or vocabulary. Next, it introduces the methods employed in this project and put forward the results of the data through a questionnaire. Then, it analyzes and discusses the relationships between factors of gender, age as well as place of residence. Finally, it discusses and predicts the civilization level and the gap between rural and urban areas through the lexical analysis of Shaoxing dialect and the future development of Shaoxing dialect according to the current situation in Shaoxing. The last part, which is also the most important one of this paper, is where the conclusion lies.
