1、雏形期：60年代末期-70年代初期
这一时期是LIMS设计思想的产生时期，实验室的数据管理仍然停留在手工记录阶段。
2、商品化时期：70年代中期-80年代末期
这一时期的LIMS系统操作一般集中在中心计算机上完成，可以实现一般的数据管理与统计分析功能，数据处理能力比较小，手工处理的工作量仍然比较大，其它功能还没有实现。这个时代的计算机语言和网络技术还不够发达，计算机的价格比较昂贵，需要专业的技术人员编写与维护程序。
3、功能完善时期：80年代末期-90年代中后期
伴随着这一时期计算机技术的飞速发展，LIMS技术进入一个崭新的发展时期。此时，计算机（PC机）价格开始大幅度下降、而性能却大幅度提高，基于第三方的关系型数据库技术与网络技术已经成熟，系统一般采用PC作为数据终端，网络体系的建立比较容易。C/S构架的数据管理模式成为主流 ......
